Empowering an international community of scientists with the most advanced technologies
The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) Office of Science, through its Basic Energy Sciences (BES) Scientific User Facility Division, oversees the construction and operation of some of the nation’s most advanced research and development user facilities. These state-of-the-art facilities are located at national laboratories and universities and are shared with the science community worldwide, offering many technologies and instrumentation that are available nowhere else. Several of these facilities offer capabilities that are transformational for research in areas directly related to advancing the mission science of DOE’s Biological and Environmental Research (BER) program. These include the synchrotron X-ray light and neutron sources for structural biology and imaging. BER supports specialized instrumentation at five DOE national user facilities. Information on them, including capabilities and guidelines for submitting proposals to access them, are provided in the links to the individual facilities below.
Presented below and on the corresponding pages are descriptions of the BER-supported resources and techniques at BES user facilities that scientists can leverage for biological research, including research relevant to BER’s energy and environmental missions.
